Kindergarten, first, and second grade teachers often give children a nightly assignment to read aloud for 10 to 20 minutes. This can be supervised by parents, grandparents, or family members. Usually, a certain level of book or page of text is sent home in a reading folder with a chart for recording book titles or length of time spent reading.

Our goal this year is for every student to master the 2 nd grade required curriculum, to develop and encourage individuality and to share personal interests in connection with the 2 nd grade curriculum, and to seek to go beyond this as well.
Repeated reading of a few phrases per week gives students practice reading high-frequency words and developing fluency and general proficiency. These phrases may be written on sentence strips to be practiced at home. 3. Reading Passages: The same story will be read 3 times per evening, Monday-Thursday for homework.
